insulation

This insulation is a game changer. The firehouse sits on a very busy corner, and if I had any reservations about this project, it was that we would hear a lot of street noise; between Renewal by Andersen’s windows and all the Rockwool insulation, we hear next to NO NOISE whatsoever.

Rockwool pricing varies by region, but is approximately 1.3x more expensive than standard batt insulation, but the benefits you realize for that nominal upcharge was a no brainer for me.

  1. the noise reduction, as I mentioned above

  2. this stuff is non-combustible - IT WILL NOT BURN (see 2 min video below)

  3. because its made from rocks it does not allow mold or mildew to grow

  4. it helps you create that nice tight building envelope that stops heating and cooling loss, thereby increasing your home operating efficiency.

what does “non-combustible” mean exactly?

Well, I think my buddy Matt Muenster will give you a pretty good idea…
