If there is any question I get disproportionately more than others, it’s what countertop should I use?

Well, for my money, SapienStone is where it’s at. It is a porcelain based countertop surface, so it is a manmade surface, but what these guys have really nailed is the veining; their printing process is so good that they have eliminated all pixelation and actually print through the layers of the surface, much like real stone veining goes all the way through the surface.

Beyond the aesthetics, you can’t beat the functionality. It is better than engineered quartz in every way:

• It is harder and more scratch resistant

• Freeze / thaw stable, so it can be used outside…have you seen my outdoor kitchen!

• UV stable, so the veining will look good year after year, especially if used outside

• Repairable, which means if you do have an accident and somehow chip your countertop this surface can be repaired, unlike engineered quartz.

I used engineered quartz for a long time because it was the best thing available when I was spec’ing it, but after finding SapienStone I will never go back. When it comes to engineered surfaces this is the gold standard in both form and function.
